Ultrasound of Veins

  1. Procedure is cheap
  2. No special preparations
  3. Pain-free
  4. Exact and sufficient information
  5. No contraindications
  6. Safe

It is a non-invasive test. Compared to x-ray examination it is totally safe and therefore is allowed to be used for pregnant women. Person does not feel ultrasound waves. Accepted data is monitored at the time of doing screening. Modern technologies give 2D, 3D and 4D pictures. Affordable prices make people choose ultrasound.

Methods of Ultrasound

Several methods are used to examine vessels with ultrasound.

  1. Doppler ultrasound allows measuring of blood flow and blood pressure producing images. That means using this device a doctor is able not only to measure a lumen but also measure the blood flow in it.
  2.  Duplex ultrasonography, or duplex ultrasound allows to see real-time processes inside vessel, find a pathologic change on vessel wall and measure blood flow at the same time. Today it is accepted as a golden standard of imaging diagnostics due to sufficiency of given information.
  3. Triplex ultrasound is similar to previous imaging method. Is allows coloured picture to be seen in Doppler ultrasound. The imaging devise enables to evaluate the blood flow on a quite long part of the body. A doctor can measure blood flow rates on each part and compare them. The method enables to evaluate exact degree and location of vascular occlusion.

Ultrasound in Phlebology

Ultrasound of vessels is the best assistant of a Phlebologist. Ultrasound cannot be opted in vascular surgery, since it enables to see pathology cases at the late stages and spot starting blood flow disorders. During ultrasound, doctor can see a blockage (plaque of blood clot) inside a vessel, thin or thick vessel walls, undeveloped blood vessels and evaluate work of blood vessel valves.
